The chaos at the offices of the popular social media hasn’t ended as Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees just before Thanksgiving, saying these will be the last.

Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees

According to two sources familiar with the company’s operations, Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees overnight on Wednesday, most of whom were engineers. The sources said that Twitter was taken by surprise by the firings. In an all-hands meeting earlier this week, Musk declared that the firm will not be making any additional layoffs. According to one of the persons, the workers put off overnight on Wednesday received one month’s severance pay and were advised that their dismissal was due to poor performance.

Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees and he claims these were the last

According to the two persons, the termination procedure was comparable to that of previously laid-off workers: Access to work equipment and computers was suspended, and impacted employees received a notice of termination through email.

Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees before or forced them to leave, leaving the most important personnel overworked. The sources said that because Twitter teams are already severely understaffed, several employees have been required to work Thanksgiving.

The firings are said to be caused, at least in part, by Musk’s new rule forcing Twitter engineers and other staff working on technical projects to provide him an update every week on what they were working on, what they intended to finish, and particular lines of code they produced. These updates are generally due on Fridays, but owing to the Thanksgiving break, they were really due on Wednesday.

According to reports, Twitter hired external engineers to work for the firm under Musk. Musk also apparently paid a hoaxer to trick the media into believing he had just been fired from Twitter. According to one of the employees, these changes had caused the staff to assume that Musk had broken his tendency of dismissing people without warning.

Why is Elon Musk firing Twitter staff?

Musk said that “rationalization of headcount” is necessary and that “Anyone who is a significant contributor should have nothing to worry about,” in a June 16 Q&A with Twitter employees. That was before Musk tried to back out of the deal in early July, which prompted the business to sue him in an effort to enforce the merger agreement’s conditions. Musk evidently altered his mind once he realized he would very definitely lose his legal battle with Twitter over the deal.

How many employees does Twitter have?

The massive layoffs happened in rounds as several thousand workers allegedly left Twitter, reducing its staff from about 7,500 in September 2022 to about 2,700 now. Elon Musk sacked staff from Twitter Inc.’s sales and partnership side as recently as last Monday. After assuming control of the firm earlier this month, Musk already fired roughly half of Twitter’s 7,500 employees, affecting workers in the product trust and safety, policy, communications, tweet curation, ethical AI, data science, and other areas. After all that, Elon Musk fired more Twitter employees just before Thanksgiving.

Is Twitter shutting down?

Likely not (right now). Elon Musk, the owner, has continued to exhibit faith in public remarks. He claimed that the business had “just set another all-time high in Twitter usage” during the course of the previous night, which is probably tied to the volume of individuals tweeting about Twitter.
