God of War Ragnarok ending (+secret ending) explained
At the conclusion of the God of War Ragnarok narrative, there is a genuine “coming together” moment. Asgard is besieged when Kratos gathers the forces of the Nine Realms, which all teleport there. Even Jormungandr appears here! It’s a genuinely dramatic moment when Kratos and the other characters come to terms and resolve to play the game morally.
Odin is not Ragnarok’s sole significant battle, though. Thor appears to attempt to defend Odin after Heimdall has already been stopped. Odin appeared to try and make a final stand in God of War Ragnarok, despite the fact that he had humiliated and berated Thor during the entire game.
Throughout the conflict, Kratos made an effort to persuade the God that he should not slay Thor. After all, Thrud, his daughter, and Atreus are close. Thor is betrayed and killed by Odin just as he changes his mind and sees the light.
Together, Freya and Kratos battle Odin through numerous phases in which he keeps coming back. The All-Father, however, is vanquished by the God of War, despite all of his cunning yet potent strategies.
Odin tried to put the blame for everything anew on Atreus and Kratos after he was beaten. He gaslighted the heroes by claiming that he merely wanted to do good and that Odin was not to blame for any of his wicked deeds.
Odin vowed to never give up looking for solutions since he wants to avoid death and find out what would happen next. Knowing this, Atreus was determined to steal Odin’s soul. He would put it inside a marble that Angrboda had given him and present the marble to Kratos.
Kratos made the decision that Freya should have the opportunity to finally kill Odin, and he would not take that away from her. Despite her hesitation, one character in God of War: Ragnarok did not return the stone to Atreus. Still furious about Brok’s passing, Sindri broke Odin’s marble with a hammer. Now his soul is lost for all time.
After God of War Ragnarok, the All-Father won’t ever make another appearance. The group questioned what would happen next, and Sindri responded authoritatively by smashing the marble in one blow before teleporting away.
Surtr would ultimately pierce Asgard with his blade in his new form as “Ragnarok,” and this might have easily slain the entire group of remaining characters. At the very last second, Freyr intervened to stop Ragnarok, allowing Freya and the others to escape. Although it was a tragic scene, it was also inspiring. The flippant, conceited brother of Freya took one final, valiant stand.
The end of God of War Ragnarok
Once more, the attention is on Atreus who is positioned someplace in the camp that still houses the survivors of Asgard and the besieging soldiers. The first person Atreus encounters is Eir, who wanders through the camp and engages everyone in passing conversation while looking for his father.
He eventually encounters Angrboda and Fenrir, whose spirit was ultimately preserved. Atreus, who is also Loki, determined that he had a more significant mission ahead of him at this point. Angrboda had earlier given him a bag of marbles that contained the souls of Jotnar in God of War Ragnarok. He abandoned the assignment and gave the items back to Angrboda.
Atreus made the decision that he had to do this in order to assume control over his legacy and his people. This implies that Kratos must say goodbye, but he is unsure of how to do so for his father. When Kratos and Atreus cross paths once more, Angrboda directs them to the Jotnar’s final mural.
A pretty nice moment in the God of War Ragnarok conclusion is seen while traveling. During the time they were getting ready for Ragnarok, Kratos made a vow to Loki that he would finish the story, and he did. This also alludes to the post-game, in which Angrboda stated that fragments of Asgard had been dispersed around the Nine Realms and that Einherjar was probably guarding them.
The last Jotnar mural was the key takeaway. Its contents were disclosed when it was opened. Loki’s shrine in Jotenheim was apparently demolished by Faye so that he would not be aware of his own fate. Kratos claimed that Faye was the reason they carved out their own way.
Faye sacrificed everything to keep Loki and Kratos safe. Finally, Atreus faced his father, telling him that there are still other giants out there, and that it is his responsibility to locate them and release their souls. He acknowledges that he is in charge of his people and makes it obvious that he cannot achieve it with Kratos’ assistance.
The God of War said that this is the reason his son must undertake this mission by himself after Kratos inquired if it alarmed Atreus. Kratos told his kid he was ready to go on his own with a final, tearful goodbye.
He said:
“Loki will go. Atreus… Atreus remains.”
After a final hug, the two parted ways, demonstrating that Kratos could free himself from his past and grow from his faults. As the credits rolled, Kratos and Freya would return to the other characters along with the head of Mimir.
While the God of War Ragnarok credits roll, Freya, Kratos, and Mimir discuss their next course of action. The two say that the Valkyrie Queen is still out there. During Ragnarok, they failed to see or engage Gna, the reigning Valkyrie Queen.
Freya, a Vanir goddess who is devoted to Asgard, says that she must be located and found quickly. After God of War Ragnarok, this might be where the subsequent Norse God of War game goes. In the event that there are other adventures in the Nine Realms, Gna could marshal the army of Odin’s allies and command other deities to battle Kratos.
