Bayonetta 3 boycott: How Bayonetta 3 controversy will effect sales?

What is the reason for the Bayonetta 3 boycott? Many fans of the game are wondering about the answer to this question. Fans were shocked. Hellena Taylor wouldn’t be playing the title character again in Bayonetta 3, but she recently stirred up more controversy with claims that Platinum Games paid her poorly.

Taylor explained her experience and then made multiple posts on social media urging a boycott of Bayonetta 3. Other messages then came, some addressed to Nintendo, Hideki Kamiya, the developer of the franchise, and other leaders in the gaming sector.

Bayonetta 3 boycott explained

Using social media, Kamiya asserted that Taylor is misrepresenting the circumstances. Kamiya’s Twitter account has subsequently been blocked, possibly due to his mass-blocking of persons supporting Taylor and criticizing him.

Fans only have Taylor’s account of events to go on until Platinum Games releases an official statement or until Kamiya returns to social media, even though her experiences indicate a bigger problem with the mistreatment of voice actors in the game business.

Allegations made about Bayonetta 3 by Hellena Taylor

Fans have been focused on Taylor’s claim that she received a low-ball offer of $4,000 to reprise her part as Bayonetta. Taylor refutes this claim by listing her accomplishments, contributions to the series, and financial success of the Bayonetta franchise. Many have suggested that the fact that Taylor had to re-audition for the role of Bayonetta is an example of how eastern businesses act when trying to “fire” someone by setting up a bad scenario they want to leave.

Despite their past excitement for Bayonetta 3, this has prompted many fans to take to social media to express their support. It doesn’t speak good of Platinum Games because, before Taylor’s accusations, the public had already come to terms with the reality that she wouldn’t be taking over the job again by presuming it was Kamiya’s idea. Her replacement has even been interpreted as a sign of Bayonetta 3’s multiverse investigation, but fresh information suggests the shift was actually the result of backroom commercial negotiations.

Hellena Taylor reopens discussion on video game voice actors

The way Platinum Games allegedly treated Taylor seems to be representative of attitudes present across the gaming business. The general sentiment among followers is to support Taylor but also using this situation to bring about a more profound change.

The voice actor focuses on Taylor’s departure from Bayonetta and emphasizes that all she sought was a decent, livable income. Taylor’s involvement is generally considered to be worth more than $4,000 for a series that has generated millions of dollars and is anticipated to make considerably more money after Bayonetta 3. The general consensus is that voice actresses who are less well-known are frequently paid per word, which leads to discounted labour and voice performers who are readily replaceable by coders.

Making a returning actor re-audition is a rare practice that typically indicates that the creator is attempting to fill the role with a different actor or is exploring for alternatives. Instead of discouraging actors with pointless auditions, there should be greater openness and honesty. Instead of potentially disrespecting Taylor as a professional with more shady systems, Platinum Games should have just bit the bullet and recast Bayonetta.

A number of characters have undergone recasting, including Bayonetta, but although some of them were the result of localization actors filling in for departing actors or official actors quitting, there are other reoccurring issues that need to be addressed. Clancy Brown, for instance, quit doing the voice of Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot due to insufficient pay.

Another frequent occurrence is switching out voice actors for more famous, well-known people, or perhaps even casting celebrities. Examples of this include Troy Baker replacing James Sunderland from Silent Hill or Kiefer Sutherland taking David Hayter’s place in Metal Gear Solid.

It’s challenging for fans not to see these choices as a way for creators to capitalize on their brand familiarity, even though developers frequently claim that they are required for the creativity of the game. In the instance of Hayter, he had been engaged in a constant battle with Kojima to take over the part, frequently re-auditioning for it and nearly losing to Kurt Russell.

This preference for actors over voice actors isn’t limited to replacing voice actors in existing roles; a recent flurry of games have leaders who are well-known, successful actors. Though celebrity cameos in video games were once the norm, contemporary works like Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu Reeves or Star Wars Jedi with Cameron Monaghan show how celebrities are increasingly being used in motion capture to work with both name recognition and acting talent.

In the case of Bayonetta, she was given a new voice actor, Jennifer Hale, who is seen on social media posts, which has led many to believe that her quiet is the result of an NDA. Now that the bridge has been burned, it appears unlikely that Taylor will ever return to Bayonetta. Still, maybe the topic of voice actresses’ opportunities, compensation, and respect in the video game business will continue to be sparked by her passing.

On October 28, Bayonetta 3 will be available for the Nintendo Switch.
