Google launched their newest Pixel phones during the ‘Made by Google’ event in 2022. The two new Pixel smartphones are now available for pre-order and will be available for purchase beginning October 13. Google has priced the phones quite competitively, with prices beginning at less than $599. On the two phones, there are also some appealing deals. Here’s all you need to know about the new Google Pixel 7 and its Pro variant.
Google Pixel 7 series price
Google Pixel 7 costs $599, while Google Pixel 7 Pro costs $899. Both smartphones will be available for purchase on October 13.
Pixel 7 series smartphones come in three colour options
The Pixel 7 smartphone is available in three colors: Snow, Obsidian, and Lemongrass. Its bigger brother, on the other hand, is available in Hazel, Obsidian, and Snow colors.
The design
Google has tweaked the ‘Camera bar’ design that debuted with the Pixel 6 series in 2021. It’s more noticeable on the latest Pixel phones. The camera bar now spans across the width of the device, seamlessly from the phone’s frame. Instead of being a pure black bar, this metal strip is now accentuated according to the device color. The finishes of the two phones also vary slightly, Pixel 7 comes with a brushed aluminum look while the Pro variant with shiny, polished chassis. Both phones are pretty attractive and elegant.
Google’s own Tensor G2 processor
Both smartphones are powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, a 4nm device having two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. The new chip has the same core configuration as the original Tensor but is manufactured on a more efficient 4nm technology. It is built on a 4nm manufacturing technology and has three core (2+2+4) clusters, a Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) for machine learning, and the same Titan M2 security co-processor as the Titan M2. There includes software-based Face Unlock as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The camera
In both phones, Google has used a similar 50MP primary camera plus a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. The front-facing camera on both phones is 10.8MP. The new 48MP 5x telephoto zoom is the most significant update in the Pro variant. Google has also revamped how the camera pushes in to capture more detailed photos with an extended zoom range on the telephoto lens, and the Pixel 7 Pro is capable of Super Res Zoom at up to 30x with electronic and optical image stabilization. All three lenses include laser detect auto-focus (LDAF).
New camera features
Google has unveiled new Pixel series camera features. These include new ‘Cinematic Blur,’ ‘Photo Unblur,’ and ‘Guided Frame’ effects. ‘Cinematic Blur’ enables users to capture cinematic-style videos with gorgeous, shallow depth-of-field. ‘Photo Unblur,’ a Google Photos feature that will be available initially on the both phones, will utilize machine learning to fix fuzzy photos, even old ones. Users may also use Magic Eraser to swiftly remove clutter from photographs. Those with limited eyesight may snap selfies using ‘Guided Frame,’ which combines precise auditory instruction, high-contrast visual animations, and haptic feedback.
Displays are gets brighter
The base model has a 6.32-inch full-HD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixel) OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. While the Pro variant has a bigger 6.7-inch Quad-HD (3,120 x 1,440 pixel) LTPO OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Google says that both phones’ displays are 25% brighter (at peak brightness) than the Pixel 6 series.
Android 13 out-of-the-box
Both of the Google Pixel phones are dual-SIM (Nano + eSIM) smartphones ship with Android 13 out of the box.
Water- and dust-resistant rating is same as Apple and Samsung
The new Pixel phones have an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. This is the same as previous Pixel phones and other premium phones from Apple and Samsung.
Slight dip in battery capacity
The Google Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 5,000mAh battery and 23W wired fast charging. The battery capacity of the Pixel 7 has been reduced to 4,355 mAh from 4,600 mAh in the previous Pixel 6. Wireless charging is supported on both phones at 20W+ rates when using compatible Qi wireless chargers. Battery Share also supports reverse wireless charging for accessories such as Pixel Buds and others.
The future
In addition, Google is introducing support for a built-in VPN powered by Google One to the Pixel 7 series phones. However, it will not be ready at launch, therefore no specifics are available. Google Pixel 7 series phones will receive major Android upgrades for three years and security patches for five years.
