The South Korean YouTube channel hacked by an unknown hacker group that broadcasted Elon Musk talking about crypto.
Hackers recently gained access to the South Korean government’s YouTube channel. After gaining access to the channel’s controls, the hackers renamed it ‘SpaceX Invest.’ Soon after, footage of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk discussing cryptocurrency started playing on the hijacked channel indefinitely. The necessary agencies took four hours to restore the compromised YouTube channel.

However, before that could happen, the exploiters attempted to push certain coins over the channel as well. The channel was affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in Korea. According to Yonhap, a representative from YouTube Korea recognized and verified the situation. The hack assault on this channel, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. on September 3, was carried out after the ID and password associated with this page were taken.
The films of Musk promoting cryptocurrencies on this page were discovered by the ministry early in the morning, and concerned personnel was tasked with regaining access to this YouTube account. This is not the first time hackers have attempted to entice investors in the sector by using compromised government websites. A YouTube account run by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) was hacked just last week. Since it was retrieved, the channel, which was followed by over 500,000 people, has been offline.
The crypto industry, which often has a market valuation of over a trillion dollars, has recently become a magnet for cyber thieves. Social networking sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube have become important tools for crypto hackers to contact potential victims. YouTube, a Google-owned site, is infested with phishing and cryptocurrency frauds, according to experts from the search engine giant’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) last year.
Further investigation found that hijacked YouTube channels were selling for between $3 and $4,000 USD. Hackers gained control of various YouTube channels belonging to crypto-supporting celebrities as well as Indian exchanges including CoinDCX, WazirX, and Unocoin in January 2025. The hackers distributed video instructions in which they requested bitcoin wire transfers. The hackers included a wallet link in the video’s description section.
