Who is the Silver Surfer?
The Silver Surfer is a fictional character that appears in Marvel Comics’ American comic books. The character has also appeared in several film, television, and video game adaptations. Jack Kirby developed the character, who originally appeared in the comic book Fantastic Four #48 in 1966. The Silver Surfer is a humanoid extraterrestrial with metallic skin that uses his surfboard-like vehicle to traverse across space.
Originally a teenage astronomer called Norrin Radd on the planet Zenn-La, he served as Galactus’ herald to save his homeworld from the planet devourer. Radd was imbued with some of Galactus’ Power Cosmic in exchange for tremendous power, a new body, and a surfboard-like ship that let him travel faster than light. Radd, now known as the Silver Surfer, scoured the universe in quest of planets for Galactus to devour. When his journeys brought him to Earth, he encountered the Fantastic Four, who helped him recover his spiritual nobility. The Surfer saved Earth despite betraying Galactus and was sent there as punishment.
