If you are excited about the release of the Wrath of the Lich King but don’t know anything about engineering, our WotLK engineering guide is just the thing you need to get started with it.
You’ve swept through Azeroth and Outland. The troops of the Lich King now await you in the cold continent of Northrend. Take on the undead Scourge and the Lich King himself atop Icecrown Citadel. After its original release in 2008, the Lich King returns with Wrath of the Lich King on World of Warcraft Classic and you can check it out and try it for yourself by visiting its official site. Also, you can check out the most useful add-ons for the WotLK from our article. You can also check out our WotLK DPS ranking and tier list to learn the best damage dealing class in the game.
Engineering has always been one of the more intriguing professions in the World of Warcraft. Engineers specialize in the development of tiny, helpful gadgets, as well as ammunition and even mounts. Each of these may and frequently are sold on the AH or banked by a player’s guild in order to better equip characters at various levels of the game. The explosives and equipment you may produce as an Engineer can be beneficial for leveling at each tier, and in the endgame, you’ll be able to create some of the most valuable raid adds.
One of the key stresses of pre-raid Engineering in WotLK is on ammo and ranged weaponry. Once they reach cap, all engineers may manufacture Saronite Razorheads and Mammoth Cutters, as well as the Armor Plated Combat Shotgun and the Nesingwary 4000. Engineering has two specializations: Gnomish and Goblin, which let you to build, among other things, Iceblade Arrows and Shatter Rounds at 450. You will also be able to craft Epic Helmets such as Armored Titanium Goggles, Greensight Goggles, Visage Liquification Goggles, or Weakness Spectralizers regardless of specialty.
Engineers in WotLK may develop a variety of helpful items in addition to gear. Blizzard has added Mekgineer’s Chopper and Mechano-hog mounts to the Flying Machine and Turbo-Charged Flying Machine mounts, which are available from TBC. These new ground mounts are BoE, which means they may be sold on the AH or created for those who bring you mats. This category also contains two robot companions that may tremendously aid groups: Jeeves and MOLL-E. While MOLL-E is only a mailbox (which is valuable in and of itself), Jeeves is a full-fledged vendor with repair capabilities. This makes him extremely useful in dungeons, raids, and quests that take you away from supply dealers and probable repair places.
WotLK Engineering guide
Engineering is frequently combined with Mining as a gathering profession by players to gather the resources required to level. Otherwise, when you move near the cap, the expense might become overwhelming. Engineers at all levels can also Salvage, which allows them to loot Mechanical corpses for components in a way similar to Skinning.
WotLK Engineering guide: Training Engineering
Engineering, like other professions, may be leveled as you quest and level your character regularly. If you opt to mine, ore nodes will spawn in level-appropriate places, and the damage dealt by explosives will be proportionate to the health of mobs. As a result, trainers from the Old World and Outland are listed below.
However, this is a power leveling tutorial, and it will cover the quickest and least expensive route to achieve 450. If you have access to Dalaran and are training, Timofey Oshenko may be found at the Magus Commerce Exchange. He’ll be able to teach you all Vanilla and TBC recipes, along with other Northrend trainers. His proximity to the AH is also advantageous for obtaining additional materials or selling what you’ve created.
Old World
Blizzard added the ability to train up to Artisan to all trainers in the Old World in patch 2.3, so you may start in whatever city you want. If you want to specialize after obtaining skill 200 and level 30, look at the section below and choose your city appropriately.
Outland
Master Engineering Trainers will be in the first place your faction quests in when you cross the Dark Portal. That means travelling to Honor Hold and looking for Lebowski. Zebig will do the same for the Horde in Thrallmar. Unlike the majority of other professions in TBC, the neutral trainer for Engineering is located in Netherstorm rather than Shattrath. If you’re questing and leveling at the same time, your next visit should be Xyrol in Area 52. After completing the Master tier, all players will need to travel to Shattrath to acquire Schematic: White Smoke Flare from Wind Trader Lathrai in Lower City.
Northrend
Just as in Outland, Northrend Grand Master trainers will be at each faction’s beginning area. The Horde must talk with Chief Engineer Leveny in Warsong Hold, while the Alliance must locate Sock Brightbolt at Valiance Keep. All engineers can train with Timofey Oshenko in the Magus Commerce Exchange after they arrive in Dalaran. Dalaran also has two specialized trainers: Findle Whistlesteam for Gnomish and Didi the Wrench for Goblin. Binkie Brightgear may also be found outside of the capital in the Argent Tournament Grounds.
Specializations
Blizzard established two Engineering specializations in Vanilla: Gnomish and Goblin. Gnomish was initially more interested in modest innovations, whilst Goblin was more interested in volatile explosives. However, the importance of picking one route has dwindled over time, and in WotLK, the option is actually separated between whether you want to produce Shatter Rounds with Goblin or Iceblade Arrow with Gnomish.
To become a Gnomish Engineer, all players must locate Oglethorpe Obnoticus and finish the Show Your Work quest. Nixx Sprocketspring initiates the Goblin Engineer quest chain, which concludes with the alternate version of Show Your Work. Blizzard also included the opportunity for Engineers of any specialty to see Narain Soothfancy at Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris and spend 150 gold to change their specialization in version 3.2.

You’ll also have another option between 320 and 325. If you have an abundance of Bolts and Casings, Fel Iron Musket may be the finest choice. Heavy Stock, on the other hand, must be purchased from a Trade Supplies dealer. If you have extra Blasting Powder, Fel Iron Bomb may be a better option, but keep in mind that you’ll still need more afterwards. This is also an excellent time to buy Schematic: White Smoke Flare from Wind Trader Lathrai in Lower City.

Northrend has extra options for leveling your Engineering. Your first one, between 370 and 385, is obvious but demands careful thought. If you simply construct Volatile Blasting Trigger and Overcharged Capacitor, it may take less bars than if you also make Hammer Pick, but the Capacitor recipe gets green at a lower level than the pick. So, if you don’t make the Hammer Pick, you can wind up utilizing more bars than you would if you had just decided to.

435 – 448: Gnomish Army Knife
- Combine Saronite Bar, Skinning Knife, Blacksmith Hammer, and Mining Pick to make Gnomish Army Knife.
Because this recipe turns green throughout his step, you’ll need to prepare more than 13. The 25x recommended in the materials list is a good bet, however buy each of them from a Trade Supplies Vendor in small stacks as you approach 448 to avoid buying too many extra.
These are the only pre-450 recipes in WotLK that will remain Orange until you cap, so while you may create them earlier, it’s better to preserve them for your final two levels.
448 – 449: Wormhole Generator: Northrend
- Combine Titanium Bar, Eternal Shadow, Eternal Water, Eternal Fire, and Eternal Air to make your Wormhole Generator: Northrend.
Make your Epic Engineering helmet for the last level. All of the alternatives are described below, and they each require a unique combination of Eternal components and Rare gems. An Alchemist can purchase, mine, or convert them. Titanium Bar, Heavy Borean Leather, and Frozen Orb are the only consistent materials between these items, and have all been accounted for in the materials list. You have the last say on the decision and the remaining materials.
449 – 450: Any Epic Helmet
- Armored Titanium Goggles, Charged Titanium Specs, Electroflux Sight Enhancers, Greensight Gogs, Truesight Ice Blinders, Unbreakable Healing Amplifiers, Visage Liquification Goggles, Weakness Spectralizers
WotLK Engineering guide: Endgame Engineering
In the endgame, Engineering produces BiS ammunition, scopes, and pre-raiding BiS ranged weaponry. Engineers can create the Heartseeker Scope, Armor Plated Combat Shotgun, and Nesingwary 4000. Iceblade Arrows are only available to Gnomish Engineers and can be learned from Dalaran’s Findle Whistlesteam; Shatter Rounds are only available to Goblin Engineers and can be learned from Didi the Wrench.
Engineers can also create the two new motorbike ground mounts. After achieving Exalted rep with your faction’s Northrend contingent, you can purchase each recipe. To learn Schematic: Mechano-hog, players must be Exalted with the Horde Expedition, and to learn Schematic: Mekgineer’s Chopper, they must be Exalted with the Alliance Vanguard. All Engineers have the option of learning Schematic: Jeeves.
This BoP recipe drops most frequently from Salvaging the Mechanical monsters in Ulduar, but it can also be found on various mechs in Northrend. Jeeves is extremely handy for finishing dungeons, raids, or any sort of lengthy farming, and it quickly becomes an indispensable element of any Engineer’s toolset.
