The follow-up to the Wii U game Splatoon, Splatoon 2 is a third-person shooter that Nintendo developed and released on the Nintendo Switch system. While the overall gameplay is the same as Splatoon, the game expands on the ink-based shooting techniques established in that game.
Additional content added to the game includes new weapons, stages, and a new horde mode called Salmon Run.
The game was first alluded to in the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer on October 20, 2016, and it was made available worldwide on July 21, 2017. On October 8, 2021, a physical edition of the game with the Octo Expansion DLC included was made available in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
The game turned out to be a huge hit, selling more than 2.5 times as many units as Splatoon (13.3 million vs. 4.95 million), and eventually rising to become the Nintendo Switch’s tenth best-selling game. Splatoon 2’s sequel, named Splatoon 3, was announced for the Nintendo Switch on 17 February 2021. It is currently scheduled to release on 9 September 2022.
Nintendo did not formally confirm this or any other game shown in the video as being in production at the time, despite being teased with the announcement of the Switch device.
An official demo of the game was playable at Switch hands-on events before it was formally launched on January 13, 2017, during the Nintendo Switch Presentation in Tokyo, Japan. From March 24 to March 26, 2017, you could try out the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire demo.
The game is available in three different languages: European, North American/Oceanian, and Japanese. The three versions serve the aim of separating regionally specific content, such as Splatfests, especially those that contain commercials. Before acquiring the North American version of this game, Oceania had already received the European edition of the first Splatoon.
Even with minor variations between the English, French, and Spanish translations of the North American/Oceanian and European versions of the game, each edition has its unique translations. The game was also translated into Dutch, German, Italian, and Russian for the European version. Now let’s learn kow to draw in Splatoon 2!
