Has the KOTOR remake release date been determined, which is in danger due to problems with the producer? According to Bloomberg, Embracer Group will transfer development of the planned Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake for the PS5 and PC from Aspyr Media to an Eastern European Saber Interactive facility.
The game was initially being developed by Aspyr, famed for its versions of KOTOR and KOTOR II, and it was first revealed in a brief video last September during a Sony showcase. However, after a prototype was presented to Sony and Lucasfilm, work on the remake was put on hold, according to a July Bloomberg story.
Saber had been assisting in the remake’s production, but a mysterious line in Embracer’s earnings report published last week gave the impression that Saber would now be officially taking control. One of the AAA projects for the Group has moved to a different studio within the Group, according to Embracer. This was done to make sure the title’s quality bar was where it needed to be.
Has KOTOR remake release date been announced?
Embracer stated in its earnings report that company “is not anticipating any major delays for the title based on this shift.” A date for the KOTOR remake’s general release has not been disclosed by the firm. An inquiry for feedback from Embracer did not immediately receive a response.
Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit scenes were among the numerous acquisitions that Embracer made last week that made headlines. These latest additions to its stable of studios, which already includes those responsible for titles like Saints Row and Borderlands, are substantial.
So when can Star Wars KOTOR be released?
Aspyr’s removal from the project shows that the first demo developed by the company was not liked enough by Lucasfilm Games (LucasArts). Saber Interactive, which is shown as the new producer of the project, has signed many popular games in the past. When can the company, which has produced productions such as Crysis Remastered projects, Halo games, Snowrunner and World War Z in the past, finish the KOTOR remake project?
Obviously, Saber Interactive’s calendar is quite full this year. Circus Electrique, which will be available in September, Dakar Desert Rally in October, movie game A Quiet Place, which will be released later this year, is on the company’s calendar for 2022. In addition, Space Marine 2, whose release date has not been announced yet, is another game under development.

Dakar Desert Rally, where they will reflect their vehicle physics experiences especially in Mudrunner and Snowrunner games, is now Saber Interactive’s most exciting project. The game’s release is less than 2 months away. When the company finishes this year, only Space Marine 2 will remain. It seems highly likely that Saber Interactive, which has the potential to develop and publish 3-4 games a year, will leave the KOTOR Remake project to 2023.
If Saber Interactive does not continue to work on a game that has not been announced yet, it will begin to devote a significant part of its existing workforce to KOTOR remake. Frankly, our expectation for the KOTOR remake release date is late next year. The company has published many of its projects this year, and when we look at the ones to be published, we see that the games are usually published in 2-month calendars.
Our optimistic forecast for the KOTOR remake release date is August of 2023, while the more likely date is October 2023.
