The bothersome YouTube commercials are removed with a YouTube Premium subscription, and background play is supported, so the video will keep playing even if you close one app or turn off the display of your phone. You can download videos for offline usage and gain access to YouTube Music Premium with the subscription.
The company’s cloud storage option, Google One, gives your Google account more capacity. The internet giant provides 15GB of shared storage for free to its customers, which can be used for Gmail, Drive, and Photos. To obtain more, you’ll need to pay more, which is where Google One comes in.
A Google One Basic plan subscription that gives your account an extra 200GB of storage is part of the Pixel Pass package. For people that shoot a lot of photos, make a lot of movies, or have a lot of data in Google Drive, it’s a great option.
The gaming-focused Google Play Pass membership is the next item on the list. It offers unrestricted access to hundreds of games and applications. Similar to Netflix but with mobile games.
Google’s Preferred Care, a service that is intended to provide you peace of mind, is the final benefit of the Pixel Pass. It covers unintentional harm to your gadget, such as cracks, liquid spills, and drops. It functions somewhat like insurance for your Pixel device.
The base model of the Pixel 6 costs $45 per month, and the base model of the Pixel 6 Pro costs $55 per month. In other words, the Pixel 6 will cost you $1,080 over two years, while the Pixel 6 Pro will cost you $1,320. For comparison, the Pixel 6 costs $599, while the Pro version costs $899.
Let’s analyze these figures to see how much you will save over the course of two years by first examining the cost of the additional services that were included.
- YouTube Premium: $11.99 per month ($287.76 over 2 years)
- Google One Basic plan: $2.99 per month ($71.76 over 2 years)
- Google Play Pass: $4.99 per month ($119.76 over 2 years)
- Preferred Care service: $7 for Pixel 6 and $9 for Pixel 6 Pro per month ($168/$216 over 2 years)
If you signed up for each of these four services separately, they would cost you exactly $647.28 for the Pixel 6 and $695.28 for the Pixel 6 Pro over the course of two years. Both the Pro model and its smaller counterpart, which start at $1,246.28, would cost $1,594.28 if those sums were added to the beginning costs of Google’s new flagship phones.
Purchasers of the Pixel 6 will save exactly $166.28, whilst purchasers of the Pro model would save $274.28 over the course of two years.
If we do the math, purchasing a Pixel 6 with Pixel Pass saves consumers exactly $166.28 over the course of 24 months whereas purchasing a Pixel 6 Pro saves consumers $274.28. On paper, that seems like a good deal but bear in mind that this calculation only applies to the entry-level models of the phones.
If you choose either of the two Pixel phones in the 256GB configuration, you will save an additional $10 over the course of two years because Pixel Pass will cost you an additional $3.75. Is Pixel Pass worth it?
Is Pixel Pass worth it? It depends, but we’d say that Pixel Pass is not worth it for most consumers. That’s because we think most people don’t need all of Google’s services that Pixel Pass includes.
The Pixel Pass is undoubtedly valuable for people who currently subscribe to the four Google services mentioned above and want to purchase the most recent Pixel. According to our estimates, it’s also worthwhile if you intend to use YouTube Premium, Preferred Care, and one of Google One or Play Pass. In this scenario, you will still save money, but not nearly as much.
Another item to consider is that if you sign up for a Google Fi plan, you will receive $5 off your monthly payment.
Make sure you carefully consider which of the offered services you truly want to use and which one you don’t before signing up for Pixel Pass to avoid paying for anything you don’t require. At the end of the day, is Pixel Pass worth it? Well, it’s for you to decide.
