You’ll need to grab a church bell tower to subdue other soldiers. Make your way through Marignay. When available, employ smoke grenades to summon mortar attacks. Clear the house opposite your starting point. A little locket hangs in front of a painting by a blown-out wall on the second level, near the staircase to the right. This is the level’s first Memento. German reinforcements will come, first in jeeps, then in a half-track. When the half-track comes, someone from your squad will be killed right outside your position. Grab him and bring him to safety to achieve the level’s single Heroic Action.
After you’ve cleared the Germans off the half-track, proceed to it and put the machine gun on top. German reinforcements will launch an attack from the left side of the screen. The cannon delivers decent damage and is well-protected, but if you’re having trouble getting everyone, have Pierson shout out targets before mounting it to give yourself an advantage.
When you enter the chapel, you’ll see an ammunition dump where you may refill. Once you do, a machine gun will start firing at you from the second story, as will two riflemen on the second floor’s wings, and opponents will start coming in from the ground level. go to the right side of the church and march up gradually to clear foes out and progress into the church’s courtyard. Remember to reload on ammunition before you go.
After eliminating the German resistance in the Church, proceed to the right of the image below. A little nook may be seen in a blown-up crater at the front door. The level’s second Memento may be found inside the alcove. Some of your team members will head out to destroy an enemy anti-aircraft gun, while you and a few others will keep an eye on things from the belltower. Climb the stairs and then the ladder to gain access to a sniper rifle.
There are four Germans in front of some sandbags that you must remove. Germans will surge in from the square’s left side. First, get out the flamethrower. Three snipers are stationed in the greenish structure at the far end of the courtyard. Three half-tracks with gunners will charge in. Take out the gunners first. Zussman will go down the street toward the AA gun. Germans will begin firing from an exposed second story. You’ll gain the “Marksman” trophy/achievement in Call of Duty: WWII, if you cover Zussman without missing a shot.
In Stronghold, cover Zussman from the chapel without missing a shot. When the AA cannon is destroyed, the Germans will commence fire on your position. When you are struck down, a QTE will activate, requiring you to avoid the falling bell. After descending the ladder, a support beam will collapse on your leg, resulting in another QTE.
Once the beam has been removed, dash downstairs and out of the church before the bell tower collapses. Following your escape, you will be charged with holding a place. Go down to the cover on your right immediately. In front of the sandbags, there will be a huge item with which you can interact. This is the third and last Memento of the level.
Germans can approach from either side; listen to Pierson and Stiles to find out where you’re most needed. There are guns and first aid supplies all about, and remember that picking up a new weapon might be faster than reloading. When you’ve held them off for a long enough period of time, the level will conclude, earning you the “No Sanctuary” achievement/trophy.
