The popular social media platform is introducing a new Instagram Amber Alerts function on Wednesday to commemorate Global Missing Children’s Day, which will allow users of the application to view and share alerts about missing youngsters in their area, according to a blog post from Instagram.
What is Instagram Amber Alert?
The Amber Alert will be sent out by law enforcement, and it will appear in Instagram feeds of people who are present in the region. The photograph of the missing person, as well as other crucial details about the abduction such as place and physical appearance, can be shared or reposted after the alert has been issued.
“Instagram is a platform based on the power of pictures, making it an ideal fit for the Amber Alert initiative,” Michelle Delaune, president and CEO of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, stated in the blog post. “We understand that photographs are an essential tool in locating missing children, and by expanding Instagram’s reach to include more people, we’ll be able to display photos of lost youngsters with millions more people.”
