WhatsApp plans to cease support for iOS 10 and 11 by the end of 2022. A new warning discovered by WABetaInfo encourages iPhone users to upgrade their software to continue using WhatsApp after October 24th. According on WhatsApp’s support page, the firm recommends iOS 12 as a starting point for iPhone users.
Starting from October 24th WhatsApp will end support for iOS 10 and iOS 11
If you still have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6s, you will be able to continue using WhatsApp on your phone; but if you have an iPhone 5 or 5c, you’ll need to upgrade.
Whatsapp has repeatedly announced the impending shutdown of older versions of Android and iOS in order to enable it to introduce new features that would not function on those platforms. WhatsApp will end support for iOS 10, iOS 11, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C during the next months.
With the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c now nearly a decade old, most users will be unaffected. Even though, millions of people around the world rely on WhatsApp to keep in touch with friends and family, and there will almost certainly be at least a few iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c users among them..
WhatsApp was rumored to be retiring support for iOS 10 at the end of last year, although it was untrue. WhatsApp is now really planning to drop support for certain iOS versions over the next several months: iOS 10 and 11 are on the list!
“Currently, we provide support for and recommend using the following devices:
- Android running OS 4.1 and newer
- iPhone running iOS 12 and newer
- KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
Once you have one of these devices, install WhatsApp and register your phone number.
Note: WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one phone at a time. Your phone must be able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process. We don’t support setting up new accounts on WiFi only devices.”
This screenshot provided by WABetaInfo shows that WhatsApp will stop supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 on October 24, 2022. This is also stated in the official WhatsApp Help Center, which says that iOS 12 and later versions are supported and advised operating systems.
If you’re using iOS 10 or above, you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 12 in order to continue using WhatsApp: this implies you can still use WhatsApp on your iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, but you’ll have to update your iOS version.
Unfortunately, WhatsApp will not be supported on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C after iOS 12 because it is not compatible with these devices. Who uses an iPhone 5/5C nowadays? To enable recent WhatsApp functionality, older iOS versions must be phased out. You also get the most up-to-date security patches if you upgrade your iOS to a later version, so updating is always advised.
“Before we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified directly in WhatsApp ahead of time and reminded a few times to upgrade.
We’ll update this page regularly to ensure that the latest operating systems that we support are listed.”
WhatsApp will end support for iOS 10 and iOS 11 and if you are still using an iPhone 5 or 5c, it might be a great time to switch your smartphone. You will also get the latest security updates this way. If you want to learn how to send WhatsApp message without saving number or how to use message reactions on Whatsapp messages, head in!
