A metaverse survey conducted by Piper Sandler surveyed 7,100 American teenagers, with an average age of 16, about their interaction with this developing field. A new metaverse startup is announced every day, with many of them claiming that their platforms will be the next generation of the internet. Many businesses view Generation Z as a potential source of new revenue while getting closer to a desirable target audience. This metaverse survey might change their minds about the development of metaverse platforms.
Metaverse survey shows that teens are split on the metaverse
It appears that this alternative reality does not excite them. According to a new poll, half of the respondents were unfamiliar with the metaverse or had no intention of purchasing a device that would give them access to these universes. Only 9% of consumers plan to purchase a virtual reality headset in the next few months. But all is not lost: a quarter of respondents (26%) already have a VR gadget that allows them to visit the metaverse. Among these youngsters, a third use it only occasionally to explore this virtual world, in which you may, for example, purchase a replica of Paris Hilton’s martini glass bag.
Video games might bring Gen Z to the metaverse
These figures cast a long shadow over the efforts of Meta and other companies who have set out to assist the metaverse development. The Facebook CEO‘s company recently revealed intentions to enable content providers to sell virtual goods to users of Horizon Worlds, its main augmented reality platform.
Young Americans, on the other hand, are not as enthusiastic about AR as older generations. However, because video games may serve as a gateway for them to get interested in it, they may be encouraged to adopt them through the entryway of video gaming. Piper Sandler’s metaverse survey revealed that 68 percent of teenagers identify themselves as gamers, making them the ideal market for metaverse companies. Video game players have already endowed it with substance, despite the fact that this digital world of tomorrow is still in its early days.
Fortnite: Tones and I event sets an example
Fortnite has been hosting virtual concerts by major music artists such as Travis Scott, Zara Larsson, and Ariana Grande for two years. And each time, these large-scale events were watched by tens of millions of individuals. Gateways to the metaverse may also be found in blockchain-related technologies such as cryptocurrencies and NFTs. However, not for American teenagers. Only 11% and 8% of teens polled by Piper Sandler have ever bought virtual currencies or non-fungible tokens. However, many more people are familiar with these cutting-edge technologies and therefore may be eager to take part in them.
