Netflix adds a new button to its interface to help the service recommend better on your homepage: Netflix Two Thumbs Up rating system.
Netflix is introducing a new option called Two Thumbs Up that will combine the existing Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down controls, which already aid the streaming service in determining what to include for individual subscribers. However, users will be able to indicate they liked something with the new feature, known as Two Thumbs Up.
“Members have never had as many great entertainment choices as they do right now,” Christine Doig-Cardet, director of product innovation and personalization experiences at Netflix, tells The Verge. “Being able to discover the shows and movies you’ll like is critical. We want Netflix to be where it’s easiest to select something to watch.”
What is Netflix Thumbs Up rating system?
In 2017, Netflix switched from a five-star system to the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down models. The new button should allow customers to better navigate Netflix’s enormous library of shows and movies by allowing them to like titles more precisely. Doig-Cardet claims that users did not feel that indicating which shows they liked or disliked was enough, so the new button should let subscribers better explore Netflix’s vast offerings.
Netflix is constantly testing new features and tools that help customers discover stuff to watch, and it currently offers one of the most user-friendly experiences in the streaming industry. In 2020, Netflix introduced a Top 10 row and started offering users with the option to edit their Continue Watching column on all devices. “We hope to end choice fatigue with new features that we’re adding this year,” Christine Doig-Cardet says. “It’s a huge part of where we want to invest — providing those mechanisms to give the user more control back to help tailor their experience to their taste.”
Beginning today, the new Two Thumbs Up button may be found beside the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down buttons on Netflix’s web, TV, Android, and iOS interfaces.
