Square Enix has confirmed the development of Kingdom Hearts 4. During an event in Japan to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary, the company revealed the forthcoming installment.
In the trailer, which doesn’t immediately begin with Kingdom Hearts IV, there are clips from the previously announced mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, so you’ll need to skip to 4:09 to see Kingdom Hearts IV.
Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer
When the trailer begins, you’ll see Sora awaken in an apartment resembling a huge heartless as one appears to walk on foot into the city. Sora uses his Keyblade to parkour and grapple his way toward the opponent, whacking away with it. Goofy and Donald Duck appear in the dark at the end of the trailer, coming face-to-face with unknown danger.
In Kingdom Hearts III, the art style appears to be more realistic. Square Enix claims that the trailer contains “pre-alpha footage” but is “subject to change.” According to Square Enix’s press release, Kingdom Hearts IV takes place in Quadratum City, where we meet a new character named Strelitzia, who also appears in the trailer:
“Sora makes a triumphant return with an updated look at the beginning of an epic new storyline titled the “Lost Master Arc.” Beginning with Sora facing off in a boss battle against a giant enemy, players are introduced to the Quadratum, a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the KINGDOM HEARTS series. Fans will be excited to see the return of Sora’s well-known companions Donald and Goofy, in addition to the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new setting.”
Kingdom Hearts 4 release date
Kingdom Hearts IV has yet to receive an official release date. Square Enix revealed that Kingdom Hearts Missing Link will be available as a closed beta on Android and iOS in “specific regions” this August.
