Twitter edit button is in the works, Elon Musk asked his followers and the platform is now delivering. After the recent announcement everbody is asking like “Does Elon Musk own Twitter?” Well, let’s find out.
Just a day after Elon Musk asked his followers if they want a Twitter edit button, the company announced that they have been working on such a feature for almost a year.
The Twitter edit button is now in the works
In a thread on Tuesday, Twitter’s vice president of consumer product, Jay Sullivan, said that editing has been “the most requested Twitter functionality for many years,” and that since last year, the firm has been researching how to implement it in “in a safe manner.”
“Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation,” he said. “Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work.”
The company’s communications account tweeted out last Wednesday that:
“now that everyone is asking…
yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!
no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll”
On April 1st, Twitter tweeted from its official account that they were “working on an edit button,” but most users responded by pointing out that it was April Fools’ Day.

What is an edit button?
In the coming months, Twitter will start to test an edit button function with Twitter Blue, a monthly subscription version of the platform. Users of Twitter Blue can “undo” a message within seconds of sending it, which also allows them to change it, but this will be a different feature entirely.
They also stated that:
“we’re kicking off testing within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.”
The way Twitter edit button feature will be implemented is a button for any tweet can be added so that the contents can be changed after tweeting it. Although there are some users who want the feature, there are a few that claim a Twitter edit button will ruin the platform entirely.

On Twitter, numerous users and even famous persons such as Lil Nas X and Kim Kardashian have joked about the absence of an edit button. The company has also gotten in on the act back in July 2020 by tweeting:
“You can have an edit button when everyone wears a mask,”
Founder Jack Dorsey even said in January 2020 that the company would “probably never” add an edit button, but he has since stepped down as CEO and was replaced by Parag Agrawal in November. Jack Dorsey, the company’s co-founder, stated in January 2020 that they would “probably never” add a Twitter edit button, but he has since resigned as CEO and was replaced by Parag Agrawal in November.
Does Elon Musk own Twitter?
Elon Musk, disclosed earlier this week that he has a 9.2% stake in Twitter, and added he also joined Twitter’s board of directors. This news from the company on the Twitter edit button comes a day after Mr. Musk held a poll on his Twitter page if his followers wanted an edit button.
So the short answer is no, Elon Musk does not own Twitter, even though he is the largest shareholder of the company. Earlier on Tuesday, he tweeted, “Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months!”
