On Wednesday, Instagram chronological feed feature which allows you to view most recent content first, have been introduced by Meta Platforms Inc. Yes, you may now skip the company’s algorithms, which display material it thinks you’ll like most, for a feed that is sorted properly. The repair isn’t everlasting, though, and the algorithmic feed will continue to throw you back to the algorithmic feed.
Instagram chronological feed is now live on iOS and Android
Instagram chronological feed feature will be available to all Instagram iOS and Android users. The option is immediately accessible if you’ve just updated your Instagram app. If it’s not there, try updating the app from the App Store or Google Play, depending on your mobile device. The move comes as Instagram, TikTok, and other social-media firms are being pressed on their algorithms, which have been accused of keeping users, particularly youngsters, hooked to their feeds and exposing them to harmful material.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, was grilled in December at a Senate hearing about whether he thinks youngsters should be allowed to use Instagram without being enticed by algorithms that are meant to keep them hooked. “We believe in more transparency and accountability,” he stated, also noting that Instagram chronological feed would soon be available. Well, the feature has come, and here is how it works.
How does Instagram chronological feed feature work?
Next to the Instagram logo in the upper left corner of the app, you’ll see a tiny inverted caret. To change feeds, tap there, where you can choose following and favorites.
Here’s what each feed shows you:
- Home: This is the standard algorithmic feed, in which Instagram rearranges your photos and videos based on what it thinks you’ll want to see and interact with.
- Following: This is a chronological feed of all the accounts you follow and the most recent postings at the top.
- Favorites: This is a list of people you’ve marked as your favorites. You can add up to 50 of your closest friends to this list.
