Microsoft takes number one spot on Metacritic
Metacritic calculates a weighted average of critics’ marks to provide a “Metascore.” This score gives gamers a one-look analysis of how well a game is regarded by critics and players. The platform has chosen Microsoft (Xbox Game Studios) as the best game publisher of the year in their 2022 Game Publisher Rankings.
Metacritic calculated this by combining the Metascore of all the games Microsoft released during the past year and averaging them. Typically, a publisher won’t score above 85 percent, but Microsoft surpassed that with an exceptional 87.4 average rating.

Microsoft has published 10 excellent games in the past year. Three of them scored higher than 90 on Metacritic. Microsoft’s dominance puts it far ahead of Sony, which ranked second with an average Metascore of 81.3.
