We gathered all New iPad Air 2022 specs in this article. Apple replaced the iPad Pro, iPad, and iPad Mini last year, but it forgot the iPad Air. The new iPad Air appears to have been worth the wait — and maybe even the finest iPad for its price — following Apple’s most recent online “Peek Performance” presentation Tuesday.
New iPad Air 2022: Specs, price, and release date
The Air has the M1 chip of the current iPad Pro model and most recent Macs, but it has a familiar design to the 2020 model, with an eight-core GPU. It also includes an ultrawide, 12-megapixel Center Stage camera similar to previous iPad versions. 5G is also included for faster mobile data access. The iPad Air’s display, however, hasn’t changed: it still has no Mini-LED or OLED. It’s available in a new blue color for $599 (£569, AU$929), which is the same as before, with 64 and 256GB configurations that are also the same as previously. The new iPad Air will be available on March 18, the same day as the iPhone SE. Preorders will begin on Friday.
The new iPad Air was rumored to be introduced at this event; the iPad model that most needed an upgrade. The M1 chip, 5G, increased entry-level storage (from 64GB to 128GB), and a wider-angle front-facing camera with the same digital-zooming Center Stage tech that’s already on other iPad models from 2021 were reported to be included in the Air. All of these upgrades were implemented, save for the initial storage increase.
The Air line has been around for a long time, and iPad Air models have typically been midrange devices with some of the iPad Pro’s features at a less expensive price. The 2020 iPad Air appeared to be a more affordable variation of the iPad Pro, including the Pro line’s thinner-bezeled, curved-edge screen, USB-C support, and compatibility with smart keyboard cases and the Pencil 2. But it began to seem a step behind Apple’s other iPads last year: the 2021 iPad Mini looked like an iPad Air but with a smaller size and the CenterStage camera and 5G, had features the bigger Air lacked.
