Apple’s new desktop for creatives: Mac Studio and Studio Display

Mac Studio M1 Ultra came with Studio Display. Apple’s annual March event, called “Peek Performance,” has introduced the Mac Studio and Studio Display, two new pieces to Apple’s computer line.

Mac Studio M1 Ultra: Specs

The Mac Studio is a small, self-contained computer that’s smaller than a Mac Pro but roughly as powerful. The Studio Display is its own monitor. The Mac Studio, like its name implies, is designed for creative professionals who work in studios and offers them a great balance of performance, connectivity, and modularity. It’s intended to be part of a musician’s digital or audio workstation, as well as engineers who want to build code faster using the existing system.

The Mac Studio is a tiny, 7.7 by 3.7-inch device that can be tucked out of sight beneath your display. Inside its single aluminum extrusion is either the M1 Max or M1 Ultra chips (the former offers up to 64GB of unified memory and the latter has up to 128GB). With up to 8 terabytes of solid-state storage, it’s evident that the Mac Studio is meant for big projects at super-speedy execution.

The Mac Studio with the M1 Max chip is said to be 2.5 times faster than the 27-inch iMac and 50 percent faster than the Mac Pro, according to Apple. You’ll be looking at a computer that’s 3.8 times quicker in terms of CPU performance than the quickest 27-inch iMac and 90 percent quicker than the Mac Pro if you upgrade to the M1 Ultra chip. According to Apple, no other computer on Earth can do what the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra can.

It features four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10GB Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, HDMI and a pro audio jack. On the front there are also two USB-C ports, another Thunderbolt port, and an SD card slot for photographers and video editors who like using external storage.

Mac Studio M1 Ultra: Price, and release date

The Mac Studio will be available from March 18 at a starting price of $1,999 (£1,999, AU$2,499) and is expected to go on sale in March 18.
