Today we’ve learned that Horizon Worlds has hit 300.000 users. Facebook, now known as Meta, has committed dozens of dollars to develop hardware and software that extends beyond conventional social media in order to push virtual reality and the metaverse. However, the firm has so far provided little information about how well its early wagers are doing.
Horizon Worlds hits over 300.000 users
The Quest headset is being positioned as a social VR platform for Horizon Worlds by Meta’s most prominent bet at the moment. It was recently highlighted in Meta’s Super Bowl ad, and Zuckerberg sees it as fundamental to their metaverse vision.
Horizon Worlds was in private beta for creators to try out its world-building tools ahead of release. Users on Horizon Worlds, much like Roblox or Microsoft’s Minecraft, can create their own unique worlds to explore and play games in as avatars.

In early December, Horizon Worlds was made available to all Quest users in the United States and Canada, resulting in a ten-fold increase in monthly users to 300.000.

How many Quest headsets has Meta sold so far?
Still, it’s unclear how many Quest headsets Meta has sold thus far, making it difficult to compare Horizon’s success to that of the underlying hardware platform on which it runs. According to several third-party estimates, sales for the Quest could be as high as 10 million. Last month, Zuckerberg said that Meta would release a version of Horizon for mobile phones later this year in order to offer metaverse experiences on devices beyond VR headsets.
Despite the fact that Horizon Worlds has yet to achieve profitability, executives at Meta are under a lot of pressure to succeed, especially seeing how its stock plummeted when investors became concerned about its pricey metaverse project.
