After just 24 hours, The Lost Ark has comfortably surpassed 1 million concurrent players, establishing it as the second most popular game in Steam history by that metric. Lost Ark, a Diablo-esque MMO, launched yesterday in the West after Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG collaborated to localize and translate it. It has surpassed concurrent records for both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, which are generally at the top of Steam’s most-played titles.

The film’s popularity is such that it has run into technical difficulties and generated a line just to begin playing. SteamDB records 1,311,842 concurrent players for Lost Ark, surpassing CS:GO’s record of 1,308,963 players and Dota 2’s 1,295,114. It’s not clear how many of those people are truly actively playing the game rather than waiting in a server queue.

Lost Ark becomes the second most played game in Steam history

It’s now in second place on the top concurrent list, trailing only PUBG. It still has a long way to go to surpass PUBG’s all-time peak of 3,257,248 participants. Amazon Games’ Lost Ark was a huge success, setting a current record of 913,634 players four months ago with New World.

It was originally released in South Korea in 2019 and has millions of active players there, as well as Russia and Japan. It’s free-to-play and has quickly risen to the top of Twitch, displacing the popular Just Chatting category.
