In 2023, the European Commission will propose a digital euro bill. According to Politico, EU finance chief Mairead McGuinness revealed the formal study of digital euro legislation at a fintech conference on Wednesday.

The European Central Bank (ECB) is already working on a digital euro design and systems, with a prototype expected by the end of 2023. The seal of approval of Eurozone executives will be needed if a digital euro is to be implemented. If they agree, the digital euro may be available for circulation by 2025.

China, on the other hand, has maintained a first-mover edge in the realm of digital currency. The country has outpaced the rest of the world with continuing and substantial progress in the CBDC field.
