Following the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S22, it’s time to take a good look at the three phones that make up the line. All three versions have characteristics and features that may persuade you to choose it instead of the other two.
The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus are the same basic design in both small and large versions, incorporating elements from the Galaxy S21 while decreasing size. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a completely new aesthetic that distinguishes it from its siblings not only visually, but also in terms of fitting two quad rear cameras and an integrated S Pen.

Samsung Galaxy S22 design
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus’s appearance is nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S21. These are two handsets with flat displays, punch-hole cameras in the middle of the screen, and a new curved camera block with three rear sensors on the back.
Samsung has significantly altered the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s design. For one, there’s an S Pen built into the bottom of the phone, but the back of the device is also distinct, with all of its cameras sitting separately in the rear.
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are hidden beneath the display of all three versions. All S22s have IP68 water/dust resistance, ensuring that the phone’s inner components are protected from damage by water or dust. The phones’ screens will also be covered in robust Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, the toughest Corning-made glass available on a phone.
The S22 and S22 Plus are available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink Gold. The S22 Ultra is also available in Phantom Black, Phantom White or Green, but it’s also available in Burundy.
Samsung Galaxy S22 displays
The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus feature two displays with the same screen size, but different dimensions. Both have an FHD resolution, a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, and 10Hz minimum refresh rate, as well as up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Galaxy S22’s display is 6.1 inches diagonally, whereas the Galaxy S22 Plus has a diagonal measurement of 6.6 inches.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch Super AMOLED display with curved left and right edges, for example. It has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, but it can drop as low as 1Hz to save battery life. For better visual clarity when watching videos or playing games, the resolution is increased to QHD+.
The displays on all three smartphones employ Samsung’s new “Vision Booster” feature, which adjusts the colors on the display to make it appear better in various lighting. They’re also very bright screens. The S22 is rated for 1,300 nits, while the S22 Plus and Ultra are rated for 1,750 nits.
Samsung Galaxy S22 cameras
You’ll find the same camera models on both versions, whether you’re shopping for the S22 or the S22 Plus. There’s a 50MP main camera with 3x optical zoom on the back, as well as a 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras with 3x optical zoom. A single 10MP main lens is positioned on front.
The S22 Ultra’s cameras take these specs to the next level, with the exception of one. The main camera has a sensor size of 108MP, and there are now two 10MP telephoto lenses; one with 3x optical zoom and the other with 10x optical zoom. The selfie camera is also higher resolution at 40 MP.
Samsung’s software department gets some interesting additions as well. “Nightography” features, for example, help the S22 cameras snap more light and color detail from photographs taken in low light. There’s also a new video Auto Framing mode that keeps track of up to 10 persons in the frame at once.
If you want to take your images a step further, Samsung’s new Expert RAW app may help you capture photos in RAW format for more precise editing after taking the shot.
Samsung Galaxy S22 performance
The Samsung S22 series is said to be powered by a 4nm processor, which is the case. Why so evasive? That’s because the device you receive will differ depending on where you reside.
The S22 is available in the United States with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 microprocessor, whereas readers in the United Kingdom or people elsewhere outside of the United States will have their S22s equipped with the Exynos 2200.
Whatever chip you choose, there will be 8GB RAM, with either 128GB or 256GB of storage in the S22 and S22 Plus. The S22 Ultra has either 8GB or 12GB RAM, with options for 128GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1TB of storage.
Samsung Galaxy S22 battery and charging
The battery capacities of the S22 and S22 Plus have decreased as well, keeping with their smaller sizes. The 3,700 mAh battery in the S22 is unchanged, but the 4,500 mAH battery in the S22 Plus has been changed to 5,000 mAh.
The charging speeds on the basic S22 have remained the same: 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, however, now feature 45W wired charging capability, allowing for a quicker recharge when necessary.
The only issue is none of these phones come with chargers in the box.
Samsung Galaxy S22 price and release date
Samsung has maintained the starting prices for the S22 series, which is excellent. The Galaxy S22 starts at $799, the Galaxy S22 Plus begins at $999, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra begins at $1,199.
If you wish to reserve the phone, you may do so now. The phone will be available for purchase on February 25.
