WhatsApp allows you to back up your data to the cloud on both Android and iOS. However, while iCloud provides a limited amount of storage space for Apple devices, Google Drive gives you limitless storage space for WhatsApp backups.
Google might say goodbye to unlimited WhatsApp backups
Google may make substantial adjustments to this feature soon. WABetaInfo has discovered strings of code that refer to Google Drive restrictions, as you can see in the image below.
Back in October, WABetaInfo discovered that WhatsApp was working on a new functionality allowing you to control the size of your backup on Android. This feature would let you exclude specific file types from being backed up, such as photos, documents, and movies. So it appears that the IM software will allow you some options for managing storage space limitations.
In the end, it’s not particularly surprising to see WhatsApp take away unlimited Google Drive storage. Last year, we saw Google give up unlimited Google Photos backups, so we’re guessing this is another step in the direction of paid storage subscriptions.
