A Massachusetts man is suing Uber for $63 million, claiming the ride-hailing service hired a driver with a violent history who was behind the wheel in an accident that left him paralyzed. Will Good was on his way home from work last April 30th when the Uber driver swerved suddenly and collided with a parked vehicle, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court. According to the complaint, Good struck his head against the passenger side seat and immediately knew he had been disabled.

According to the complaint, the motorist has a driving history dating back to 1996 that includes over 20 violations, including several for failing to stop and yield. According to the lawsuit, the driver was previously required by Massachusetts to complete a driver re-education course. According to Uber’s lawsuit, the ride-hailing firm should not have hired the driver for its platform given his extensive record of citations, and it should have recognized that hiring him “would result in risk to the health, safety, and/or welfare of people in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including plaintiff William Good.”
Good is seeking compensation for physical and emotional damages, permanent disability, and extraordinary pain and suffering in a jury trial.
