Emoji of the Year, ? (Tears of Joy), came in at a solid 5% for 2021. According to the Unicode Consortium’s report, the heart emoji (❤️) was the second most used emoji this year.

What’s even more interesting is the top 100 emoji, made up of almost 82% of the emoji used in the world.

- ? Flexed Biceps emoji is a symbol of strength and success. It’s often used to show strength, power, overcoming a struggle, exercising, boasting, etc.
- ? Butterfly has been the most popular Animal emoji among all, it represents nature, beauty, representative of change, beauty, nature, etc.
- ? Bouquet of Plant-Flower emoji has also been used for different occasions such as congratulations, romantic relationships, etc.
Which emoji is the least used in 2021?
Flags has been the least popular category and country flags has been the least popular subcategory, even though there are 258 flag emojis in total. The next largest subcategory is animals with 53 emojis in total.
Unicode has said that they’re looking to include more emoji and they want everyone who wants to propose a change to first read through the Unicode Guidelines.
