This recent update by Twitter is broadening an already existing “private information” policy.
This is a major step towards preventing people from sharing sensitive information of users such as phone numbers, photos, email addresses, on Twitter.
But the latest policy update has raised a lot of questions among its users. Some users have opined that this could be detrimental to the integrity of journalism. Others have asked what is considered under this policy?
Twitter stated: “When reporting private media, we need a first person report in order to make the determination that the image or video has been shared without their permission,” in its blogpost.
The company says it will check if the images and videos have been published elsewhere publicly or not, before taking any action.
Although this policy doesn’t cover revenge porn, Twitter is committed to banning the publication of nude images and videos of an individual without their consent.
