TikTok’s TV app is on the way. The social media giant originally tested its app on Amazon’s Fire TV, so it wasn’t a surprise that the company officially launched it on the platform earlier this month in the US and Canada. The video-focused social network has now extended the app’s availability and made it available to Google TV, Android TV devices, LG smart TVs, and Samsung smart TVs.
How is TikTok’s TV app working?
With this new feature, you can now watch your favorite bite-size videos on the big screen. While the app will still play the videos in their original vertical form – because TikTok clips are made for mobile users – it was created to provide a big-screen viewing experience for the whole family. When you visit TikTok on your phone, the parts displayed superimposed over the video have been rearranged to take advantage of a bigger television display and horizontal orientation. The TV app, like its mobile counterpart, will allow you to access your For You and Following feeds if you sign in with your account. A Discover page will also show you more films and creators that you don’t already follow.
Last year, when TikTok revealed that it was developing a Fire TV TV app, Head of Global Marketing Nick Tran said in a press release:
“People are looking for community right now and TikTok is connecting users to content and people that resonate and are meaningful to them. We’ve been thinking through what the adoption of streaming devices like Fire TV means for connecting with our users and how we can offer them more dynamic experiences, and we feel bringing our content to the TV to some extent is a natural next step.”
