Xiaomi has been releasing a lot of devices recently and the next big thing we all expect is the Xiaomi 12. There’s no “Mi” name in there, which is unusual. Xiaomi has dropped the Mi brand on the Mix 4, which is the first device to use this new nomenclature, to have a clear new branding.
Although the Xiaomi 12 hasn’t been announced yet, today we are going to review all rumors and detail everything you need to know about the device.
Everything you need to know about the Xiaomi 12
Xiaomi 12 expected specs
Design
There are no leaks regarding the design elements of the Xiaomi 12, so anything we say about it is pure speculation. Xiaomi has been bringing larger camera modules with every release, but we anticipate the biggest one to belong to the Ultra model.
We expect Xiaomi 12 to share some aesthetic aspects with Mi 11, but we will not be sure until we see the first leaked images. But most importantly, there are some rumors indicating the Xiaomi 12 might come with a ceramic back.
Display
Xiaomi 12 will offer a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution (3200 x 1440 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The predecessor Mi 11 has this display and it certainly meets the expectations, so we don’t expect a big shift in that regard. Another potential difference is a move to an LTPO display with adaptable refresh rates.
Hardware
Xiaomi’s association with Qualcomm is getting tighter and tighter, so it’s almost guaranteed that the Xiaomi 12 will come with a Snapdragon 898 processor (we don’t know if it will be called “898” though).
Besides that, we expect this phone to offer up to 120W wireless charging and 200W wired charging support because the company already has introduced the Xiaomi HyperCharge system, so why not use it on a flagship?
Cameras
Latest rumors suggest that Xiaomi 12 will come with a 200MP Samsung sensor on the back. Although, the Xiaomi 12 might come with a triple camera setup, including 50MP sensors for the main, telephoto and ultra-wide cameras. The telephoto appears to be a periscope, which is probably a 5x or 10x – we’re betting the 10x will once again be set aside for the Ultra.
Some have claimed that Xiaomi will switch to an under-display camera, while others claim there will be a punch hole.
Xiaomi 12 expected release date and price
There has been no news on when the Xiaomi 12 will be available. However, Xiaomi usually confirms the introduction of its next-generation phone at the same time as Qualcomm releases details on the newest Snapdragon processor.
In recent years, Xiaomi has introduced its next device at the Snapdragon Summit, which takes place in December. That is, most likely, going to happen in early December 2021.
Generally, Xiaomi releases its phones first for the Chinese market. For example, the Mi 11 was launched in December 2020. Before that, Xiaomi has introduced new phones at Mobile World Congress held in February. We’re expecting the Mi 12’s debut to follow a similar pattern: we anticipate confirmation at Snapdragon Summit and an official launch in China shortly after.
There are no rumors regarding the price, but by looking at the Mi 11, we expect an $899 price tag.
