New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams revealed that his administration will look into enabling local businesses to accept Bitcoin
The story comes after Adams said he will get his first three paychecks as a mayor in Bitcoin, responding to Miami’s mayor who plans to accept a single payment in the apex cryptocurrency. When doubling the other mayor’s pledge, Adams quipped, “in New York, we always go big.”
In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor. NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!

New York is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency
After recently claiming that New York is “going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries,” Adams is now reminding people that “this city was the Empire State” and it has “made empires.” For that reason, he thinks it is fitting for the Big Apple to be “destroying empires every day.”
Bitcoin: A mechanism for people
Eric Adams’ statement is in regards to Bitcoin being designed as a mechanism for people to rebel against the inflation-ravaged financial system damaged by fractional reserve banking, where money is generated from nothing daily.
When the CNN journalist asked Adams what Bitcoin is, he laughed and admitted that “even experts will have a challenge doing that.” Still, he tried and said that it is “a new way of paying for goods and services throughout the entire globe.” He said that he sees a need to teach this technology in schools and teach its “way of thinking” when it comes to payments.
