Some Windows 11 features are failing. The firm began warning Windows 11 users that some functions in the operating system are not loading due to an expired certificate. On October 31, the certificate’s validity period expired, and Microsoft warns that some Windows 11 users are unable to use applications like the Snipping Tool, touch keyboard, or emoji panel.
Windows 11 features are failing
A fix is available for some of the malfunctions, but it’s still in preview mode, so you will have to install it manually from Windows Update. The patch, KB4006746, will repair Windows 11’s touch keyboard, voice typing, emoji panel, and difficulties with the getting started and tips sections. You can check the updates in the Windows Update section of Settings in Windows 11 to find this patch.
However, the Microsoft patch does not address the flaws with the Snipping Tool app. Microsoft has shared a workaround for this problem.
“To mitigate the issue with Snipping Tool, use the Print Screen key on your keyboard and paste the screenshot into your document. You can also paste it into Paint to select and copy the section you want.” recommends the company.
Snipping Tool still has not been fixed by Microsoft
The Snipping Tool problems on multiple patched systems are still not reproduced, and it is unknown exactly how many users of Windows 11 are affected. If you’re having issues, several users who were having the same difficulties have said that resetting the system date to October 30th and then launching Snipping Tool solves the problem. The system date may be altered when the app has loaded successfully.
When S mode is activated in Windows 11, this outdated certificate also causes difficulties with the accounts page in the setting section, as well as the input method editor UI. It is uncertain when the Snipping Tool and S mode problems will be resolved.
“We are working on a resolution for Snipping tool and the S mode only issues and will provide an update when more information is available,” Microsoft says.
Microsoft’s most recent Windows 11 problems arrive just two weeks after the software giant had to release a fix for AMD CPU performance in the operating system. A software bug was reducing performance on Ryzen processors by up to 15% in specific games.
