Spotify has started testing a hardware player called Car Thing exclusively for cars Car Thing in April for some selected users in the United States. Now waitlist for the Car Thing is open for everyone in the US. But users will have to subscribe to the Premium plan to be able to enjoy this new gadget. In addition, while the Car Thing was originally offered as a free device, it is now priced at $79.99.
The whitelist for Spotify’s Car Thing is now open
Why would you want to buy Car Thing? That’s a little difficult to explain. Car Thing depends on a smartphone (iOS or Android) to be able to operate because the device needs an internet connection.
It offers a voice control feature too, you can invoke the device by saying “Hey Spotify.” This way you will be able to browse and play your favorite songs while driving. There are 4 buttons and a touchscreen display on the device to also offer you manual controls. This device doesn’t offer any extra features on top of the Spotify mobile app but you will be able to use your phone for other purposes if you have Car Thing up and running.
