To keep the discussion vibrant, Twitter is experimenting with a new dynamic.
This time, the researchers are paying attention to those discussion threads that become heated debates. In many cases, Twitter is considering issuing alerts to users not to engage in poisonous discussions.
New Twitter warnings to avoid toxic conversations
We’ve already witnessed popular subjects on Twitter transform from pleasant discussion threads to intense disputes in a matter of minutes. When we realize it, our viewpoint becomes a source of argument and even offensive comments.
To avoid these situations, Twitter plans to implement a series of warnings that will save us from getting involved in conversations that become excuses to disrespect and even harass others.
Ever wanted to know the mood of a conversation before joining? We’re testing prompts on Android and iOS that let you know if the conversation you’re about to join might get heated or escalate. This is a work in progress as we learn how to best support a healthy conversation.
As you can see in the screenshot above, a cautionary symbol will be shown below the tweet, informing you that the discussion might become heated. As a result, the user has an opportunity to decide whether or not it’s worth participating in the discussion.
And in addition to this caution, we will also see a piece of useful information. Users are urged to keep in mind that on the other side of the screen there is a person, so please avoid being rude. On the one hand, it emphasizes the value of double-checking information and being receptive to new ideas about a subject.
For the time being, this new dynamic suggested by Twitter is being tested, so there’s no telling whether it will be implemented on the platform.
