The name “New World” has been mentioned a lot in the past week, even if you’re even a casual gamer you might have heard of it. The eagerly anticipated game finally went live on Wednesday, after several delays. The game’s developer is Amazon Games and after their failed title Crucible, the company doesn’t seem to give up.

You can’t tell if a multiplayer online game is successful just after its release but people are hyped about New World. New World has more active players than any other game right now on Steam. Over 700,000 people were playing New World at the same time on Wednesday.

What is New World?

Amazon Games‘ New World is a PC-exclusive fantasy MMO game. It has everything a big-budget MMO in 2021 should have, including epic landscapes and fantastic gameplay. It comes with PvP and PvE in MMO-speak modes and lots of roleplaying options.

The game uses a number of different mechanics. Like all major online games, you’ll need to play New World to grasp its many aspects. However, here’s a general overview. The game takes place on Aeternum, it is a fictional island in the Atlantic Ocean. You play the role of an explorer on the island, but Aeternum is home to a supernatural substance known as Azoth.

There are 3 different factions you can choose from when you first start the game: The Marauders, The Syndicate and The Covenant. You can join different companies (known as clans in the other games of this genre) in each different faction. Establishing settlements and turning them into player cities is a key part of the game you’ll find yourself in. There are also four different computer-controlled factions in The Corrupted, The Lost, The Ancient and The Angry Earth. You must choose a side in conflicts between the player-controlled and computer-controlled organizations.

Is New World a multiplayer game?

The player-controlled factions are really important for the multiplayer aspect of the game. There are four multiplayer modes in New World: Expeditions, Invasions, Outpost Rush and War Mode. Here’s what they entail:

  • Expedition: This is a typical MMO dungeon. You and four other players work together to solve riddles and defeat powerful foes.
  • War Mode: In a 100-person PvP mode, one group attacks another. You’re either attacking or defending your rival’s fort.
Invasion: This is New World’s PvE mode, in which you’ll collaborate with 49 other players (that’s 50 total) to defend your faction’s fort against waves of computer-controlled attackers. To be successful, you must survive for 30 minutes.
  • Outpost Rush: But it’s not quite that simple. Outpost Rush is a PvPvE game mode. It’s a 20-person battle in which you must capture and defend outposts while fending off computer-controlled attackers.

Is New World free to play?

New World is not a free to play game but there’s an in-game store. Players will be able to spend on various cosmetic items to be able to customize their characters. Besides cosmetic items, players can buy XP-boosters too, this way they will be able to progress in the game in a much faster way. However, you don’t have to purchase any of these items to experience the endgame offered by the developers.

Does New World have a subscription plan?

No, you will not have to pay a subscription fee to play New World. The base game is available to anyone after the initial purchase. Everything New World has to offer may be experienced by those who have their game in their Steam libraries.

Why New World is such a big deal for Amazon?

In 2014, Amazon Games announced that it would cease producing mobile games (Airport Mania, To-Fu Fury), and begin producing big-budget video games to compete with firms like Activision-Blizzard, Ubisoft, and Square Enix. In order to fulfill this aim, it officially unveiled three titles in 2016: Breakway, Crucible, and New World.

Breakaway, a mix of Rocket League and League of Legends marketed to esports enthusiasts, was discontinued in 2018. Last March, Crucible, a team-based shooter with similarities to Overwatch, received widespread condemnation; Amazon promptly terminated Crucible servers after just seven months.

Yes, Amazon Games is counting on New World to help it achieve a significant victory right now. New World has been pushed back three times, originally intended to debut in May 2020 before being delayed to August 2021 — and then put off yet again for one month.

What has been the response from the community about New World so far?

The debut has received a mixed response, with many of the negative Steam reviews focusing on the lengthy wait times to gain access to New World’s servers. While critics’ reviews have yet to arrive in, New World has already amassed a large number of players.

New World is the most popular and watched computer game in the world right now. Over 620,000 people are watching New World streams on Twitch. It has 542,000 active players on Steam right now. Those figures were 230,000 for Grand Theft Auto 5 and 110,000 for Apex Legends when they were first released.
