Google will focus on widgets more with the upcoming Android 12 update, they will offer new designs aspects, new color choices, and lots of new features integrated into these tools. We will also see a new button called Reconfigure to be able to edit widgets.
Users who frequently modify their home screens know the irritation of widgets that can’t be modified after they’ve been put. In the Material You UI, Android 12 has a new method for dealing with it.
Google will bring a Reconfigure button to edit widgets on Android 12
The Reconfigure button is a floating action button that appears when you drag, position, or resize a widget, allowing you to edit its settings without affecting other things (such as removing it). While some widgets permitted users to change their configurations without having to delete them previously, customizations had to be made for each application. With the Reconfigure API, developers should have an easy method of allowing customers more complicated widget options.
In Android 12, the addition of an API for widget configuration enables you to modify a widget that is already on the home screen in a similar way to how you would in previous versions. When an application utilizes this API, a pencil symbol appears when you long press on the widget. Tapping on that button displays the settings menu.
Developers will need to modify their applications in order to take advantage of this capability, which Google has already started doing with the new Google Drive widgets. Hopefully, this technology will become the standard way of editing widgets in the future.
