TikTok is celebrating a significant milestone today, as it has reached one billion monthly active users, which is big for any social network. As we know, many other social platforms have been working to bring their respective TikTok clones to their services, as is the case of Instagram as Reels or YouTube with Shorts.
There’s no doubt that short video content is in vogue these days, TikTok is one of the most popular platforms where businesses advertise their products.
Despite growing competition, TikTok is on an unstoppable rise
The amazing thing about TikTok is the speed with which it has grown, considering that the platform was launched in August 2018, having achieved success in much less time than other social platforms.
TikTok app was the most downloaded app worldwide throughout the first quarter of 2020, with 315 million downloads, according to the firm SensorTower. Then it has managed to reach a total of 3.2 billion downloads, including the Chinese version Douyin.
Weeks ago, we also learned of a report showing that users spend more time watching TikTok videos versus YouTube, even though YouTube still holds the top position in terms of the volume of users and videos.
TikTok has had to face both the concerns of different official bodies, including the veto in the United States, which did not finally come into force, as well as a series of problems related to the use of the platform by minors and the collection of data from them, leading in recent months to actions in which the platform has led to the closure of accounts of users under 13 years of age.
Despite all this, TikTok is still in good shape, and they celebrate it by stating that:
“Whether you’re in Singapore, São Paolo, Stockholm, or Seattle, we celebrate YOU – the creators who inspire us, the artists who launch chart-breaking albums, the brands who help us discover and connect with products we love, the communities who lift us up, and all the people who keep us laughing and dancing.”
