Microsoft is continuously enhancing and developing its applications, and now it appears that Skype will be enhanced and modified. This is something striking because in recent presentations we have seen how Microsoft focused on Teams as their main app for video calls.
That said, the company has announced the improvements and changes that should arrive soon to the application through the Skype Blog. There are new design options, more themes to customize the look, and some other new features that we will detail below.
A renewed design of Skype
First of all, the company refers to a change in the way the grid is organized during video calls. In addition to new themes and aesthetic changes, we will be able to hide our faces during video calls.
There are also improvements in live broadcasts, everyone will be equally visible, even those who do not share their screen or open their webcam. This avoids the problem of seeing video previews in the top bar too small if someone else shares their screen or switches to Together Mode.
For video conferences and individuals who use only audio signals, they can select to utilize a background image so that an empty box with a gray backdrop does not appear.
The feature “Meet Now” is being updated. We discovered a tool that allowed users to join calls without having to register or download the app. To make it more appealing, the invitation links now feature the caller’s name and profile picture.
Furthermore, they claim to have improved Skype’s performance by 30% on computers and more than 2000% on Android. They also announced that by being compatible with all web browsers, regardless of device, platform, or browser, Skype will make the user experience better.
When using Skype on iOS or Android, the camera quality has been improved thanks to the Office Lens feature, which will allow you to capture memories, create videos or scan documents, whiteboards, and business cards.
Thanks to a new feature called TwinCam, you can use your phone to create a call that joins two conversations. We can do this with just a QR code.
Reactions in calls have been improved with a new reaction selector that will allow users to choose any emotion with a new search engine, organized by category feeling reactions. You will also be able to pin your favorite reactions to the top, they will always be a click away.
Skype Universal Translator will allow you to communicate with anyone in any language. It is a real-time translator integrated into Skype.
These improvements should be coming to Skype progressively over the next few months, so we will keep an eye on the changes.
