Razer has surprised us with a variety of gaming accessories over the years. In addition to laptops, mice, keyboards, and competitive headsets, there are also some unique gadgets available, such as the reusable mask or a credit card. The latest? Thimbles.
The company has announced a new accessory for gamers in its product catalog. They’ve discovered a fascinating business opportunity in this space: to solve the problem of moist, sweaty fingers for cell phone gamers.
Less sweat and more precision
Under the name ‘Razer gaming finger sleeve’ the company has presented a kind of textile thimble for playing video games on the mobile. While most gloves are intended to prevent accidental slipping while utilizing a touchscreen, these “finger gloves” are designed to help you keep your fingers cool. They also promise to be breathable, allowing fingers to stay cool while playing.
According to Razer, the thimbles are made of a “highly conductive silver fiber fabric”. The exact mix is a mystery, but Razer claims they are composed of nylon and spandex to make them resilient and adaptable to any finger. They’re only 0.8 mm thin to ensure that you have decent touch and don’t lose contact, and Razer claims that they can be worn for hours. Furthermore, they may be cleaned without difficulty after becoming soiled.
Price? A pair of two of these thimbles costs US$9.99. There is no price for Europe at the moment. How useful they depend on how necessary they are for each user. For someone with really sweaty fingers and who spends hours playing with their cell phone, they might be a good option for less than ten dollars at the exchange rate.
The mobile gaming industry has made efforts to improve. Other firms have decided to go with phones built specifically for gaming, such as the ASUS and Xiaomi lines. There’s also the mystery of the back-mounted cooling fan on some ASUS models, as well as the Redmi K40’s switches. In terms of overheat prevention, Razer thimbles have gotten more modest.
