You’re browsing Instagram, you see a post you like and you want to share it in your story, but the app won’t let you. No, it’s not a bug of the social network. There are several reasons why Instagram does not let you share some posts in your stories.
Why can’t I share a post on my Instagram story?
One of the reasons why you can not share some photos or videos in your stories that other users upload to their Instagram account is because that user has a private account. In the social network, we can choose whether we want our profile to be public or private. If it is public, anyone who searches for our username will be able to see our profile.
If it is private, you will need to send you a request to be able to see the content in that profile. If that person accepts our request, we will be able to see their profile, their stories, comment on their posts and more. However, it is not possible to share their photos or videos in our story.
What if the user doesn’t have a private account and still won’t let you share posts in your Instagram stories?
In addition to private accounts, users who have a public account can also restrict people from sharing his/her posts. This is the second reason why you can’t share posts on your story because the user has activated an Instagram feature that prevents their content from being shared on other users’ stories.
This option can be found within the Instagram settings, under the privacy section. If this option is enabled, your followers and any user who visits your profile can share your posts. If it is unchecked, they will be able to see the photo and interact with it. However, it will not be possible to share it through stories.
Finally, it is also possible that you cannot share posts in your story because Instagram has blocked you from doing so. This usually happens when you violate an Instagram policy. If this is the case, the social network will warn you beforehand.
