Today we’ve learned that Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify joined forces with TikTok to work on a feature that would allow users to shop directly from the social networking app.
Shopify users who have a business account on the Chinese social network will be able to add a shopping tab to their profiles for the first time, the company said in a blog post.
The pilot version is currently available in the United States and the United Kingdom. The company said this feature will roll out to other regions in the upcoming months.
Social media giants such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have recently invested in shopping features to grow in the industry.
The companies are competing for a slice from the e-commerce sector, which is based on users’ ability to buy products through social networking apps. According to experts, sales will grow to $50 billion from $36 billion in annual sales by 2023 in the United States.
