TikTok wants to follow in the same footsteps as Facebook and Snapchat, and have its platform for the development of augmented reality effects with the help of the developer community.
In this way, developers will be able to count on TikTok tools to create augmented reality experiences that enhance the dynamics of the app.
TikTok launched “Effect Studio” in early August, which brings together a series of tools that will make it easier for developers to create AR effects for the app. But this proposal is still in beta, so it is only open to a few markets, such as the United States.
Unlike other TikTok initiatives and tools intended for developers, Effect Studio is designed for resources to be used only within the app. Yes, only to bring new experiences to TikTok users, and not to be integrated into third-party applications. A similar dynamic to that used by Facebook and Snapchat, which have their AR resources.
This platform will work as an experiment, so not all creations that emerge from Effects Studio will be released to become a public product. And of course, they will have to go through the different betas stages, be tested over and over again, and even radically change their dynamics before they reach release.
So it will still be a while before we see some of the augmented reality experiences emerging from TikTok’s platform. For the time being, it is asking interested developers to sign up for this initiative by completing a form.
TikTok requests a series of data from developers, as well as their level of experience, type of equipment they use, examples of work, among other details.
