YouTube is conducting a new experiment in its app for iOS and Android. This time it has focused on a new feature for the comments section.

No, it’s not a new moderation tool, but it brings a translation option so that comments in another language won’t present you with a problem.

YouTube brings instant translation to comments

YouTube already has several features in testing to improve comment sections. Some are aimed at helping creators moderate comments, eliminate spam, and deal with trolls. And other options are focused on making users aware of the type of comments they leave on channels and how they can contribute to improving the community.

And now it is testing a new option dedicated to the comments section, but with a different goal. YouTube is testing instant translation in comments. YouTube will detect when the comment is in a different language than the main one and will show the “Translate” option.

It follows the same dynamic as other platforms, for example, Instagram, which allows translating any comment in another language, and then return to the original comment. To do so, it is only necessary to tap on “View original”.

While the comments section is usually covered with spam, we usually take a look to find what is not answered in the video or in search of users who tried the suggestions or have similar experiences to the creator. A search becomes a bit tedious if we have to copy and paste the comment into the translator because we don’t understand the language. So this new YouTube feature could become a practical dynamic.

At the moment, this automatic comment translation feature is in the testing stage. As the YouTube team mentions, this test is available only on the iOS and Android app. And the possibility to test it is limited to users with a premium YouTube subscription. An option that will be available until September 9.
