The Wikipedia pages of other personalities, such as Kamala Harris or Jennifer Lopez herself, were also victims of the attack.
While Joe Biden’s name is in the world trends, because of the recent and newsworthy issue of Afghanistan, there is another situation that summons the President of the United States. It is also a sensitive issue, but one that requires, perhaps, less urgency.
But pause, he didn’t just attack the US president online. He also has an extensive list of victims that extends to 53,000 pages of the most popular encyclopedia on the Internet. According to the Engadget portal, the cybercriminal added swastikas to the large group of profiles.
Swastikas, if you are not familiar with them, are the symbols with which Nazi movements are identified. And among the victims of this attack, in addition to President Biden, there were also other personalities such as Vice President Kamala Harris. Likewise, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, was also present. And entertainment personalities such as a couple of the moment: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck or Madonna herself.
The cybercriminal used a template with which he reached the number that is located around 53,000 Wikipedia pages. Then, administrators were quick to notice the anomaly and modified the erroneous information. In addition, they notified that the most important pages, i.e. those of the most recognized personalities are blocked for editing.
Wikipedia informed this Monday, August 16, the date on which the attack also occurred, that the vandal user was banned from the famous encyclopedia forever. They also detail that the templates were also blocked, although recent breaking reports indicate that there are some that can still be used.
The developers of the search engine issued a statement in which they described the attack as “unacceptable”. And that it also “violates a number of Wikipedia policies.” Finally, they stated that “most acts of vandalism on Wikipedia are corrected within five minutes, as we saw today”.
