Passing WhatsApp chats between Android and iPhone devices will be much easier from now on.
WhatsApp has taken advantage of Samsung’s Unpacked event to present to the world one of the most awaited new features by users: the option to move chats from iPhone to Android, and vice versa, in a simpler way and without having to resort to third-party tools.
Curiously, WhatsApp has chosen this event to announce the arrival of this feature. However, everything makes sense if we consider that the option to transfer chats between platforms will be available first on Samsung smartphones, before reaching other devices.
Samsung phones will be the first to enjoy the chat transfer feature
The option in question will be available over the next few weeks and will allow the transfer of chat history when switching phones and platforms. It will also allow voice memos and images to be transferred, and all content will remain end-to-end encrypted.
The feature will be available on Android devices first, starting with Samsung smartphones running a version of Android equal to or higher than Android 10.
However, the feature will be coming to the iOS version of WhatsApp shortly thereafter.
It should be noted that to transfer chats, it will be necessary to use a USB Type-C to Lightning cable, and at the moment there will be no way to perform the transfer over the Internet wirelessly. In addition, there are some disadvantages to using this method, because in case you have transferred between iOS and Android in the past, if there are two different backups in the cloud, the new transfer feature will not merge them into a single chat history.
