The new Pixels are now official. Google has announced the arrival of its new family of Android smartphones for 2021.
Google has surprised the world by announcing today its new Pixel smartphones at six o’clock in the afternoon, coinciding with the sixth generation of devices that corresponds to this new installment.
The company has confirmed today the design of its new phones, through images that come to reaffirm what we had already seen through leaks. Both models will have a groundbreaking look, totally different from anything else we have seen so far coming out of Google’s factories… and of any other brand.
A Pro model for the first time in Pixel 6
Through a post on its official blog, the company has decided to let us see the first preview of its new high-end smartphones, which will be released later this year. The devices will be a breakthrough in terms of build quality, and Rick Osterloh himself, the top leader of the company’s hardware division, believes that these are the Pixel models that will come to compete with the leading exponents on the market.
The Pixel 6 Pro will arrive with a 6.7-inch display, Quad HD+ resolution, and 120-hertz refresh rate, with slight curves on its sides. Its body will be built in polished aluminum and glass, and its back will house three different cameras: the main one, one with the ultra-wide-angle lens, and a new telephoto with four optical zooms.
For its part, the Pixel 6 will be the compact model of the family, with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display and 90-hertz refresh rate completely flat. Its camera system will consist of the same two main sensors as the Pixel 6 Pro but will lack the telephoto camera. Like its big brother, this model will feature an aluminum and glass body, although in this case the aluminum will have a matte finish, and will be available in more striking colors and not as sober as those of the Pixel 6 Pro.
Although Google has not indicated it, the images shared confirm that the two phones will feature a hole centered at the top of the screen, intended to house the camera for selfies.
Tensor arrives, the first processor “made by Google”
Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be based on Tensor, a new processor designed by Google itself, which will allow the company to become somewhat “independent” of Qualcomm and have greater control over the hardware of its phones, in the same way, that it has over the software.
In that section, it should be noted that the Pixel 6 will arrive with Android 12 out of the box.
Google claims that Tensor has been created based on how users use their smartphones, focusing a good part of the resources on features that use artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
In that sense, they indicate that the company’s models in the field of computational photography can run on Tensor with little effort, which means greater agility when developing new features or improving existing ones.
Likewise, Tensor has managed to make the Pixel 6s the phones with the most layers of security-focused hardware, thanks to the new Titan M2 chip.
For now, the company has not revealed more details about the devices, and we will have to wait until a few months from now to be able to know the rest of the features and information related to their availability.
