Clubhouse, the social platform specializing in audio rooms, which has revolutionized the way people engage in the full pandemic, to the point that many other social platforms have brought analogous features to their respective services, is officially launching its new direct messaging feature called Backchannel.
Clubhouse’s Direct Messaging feature
Backchannel is Clubhouse’s response to the use of the direct messaging feature on platforms like Twitter so that users have everything they need in their own app, without having to rely on third-party app features.
With this, attendees will be able to chat with other attendees who are in the same room, speakers will be able to coordinate with each other, and it will even be possible to collect questions from attendees in order to answer them, among other possibilities.
This is, as we can see, a complement that tries to cover a need that until now was only available on third-party platforms.
For now, this function will be available in the Clubhouse application for Android and iOS platforms, allowing individual and group conversations through texts, with the possibility of sending links in the conversations, although later it is contemplated the possibility that users can share images and videos, among other possibilities that will be announced in due course.
It was last June when it became known that Clubhouse was working on a direct messaging function, whose name, Backchannel, attracted a lot of attention.
The clubhouse is facing increasingly strong competition, among which are Twitter Space and Facebook Live Audio Rooms, so despite being the one that initially came to offer a different form of interaction, the competition has wanted to go further by taking advantage of the share of users they already have to snatch more users.
Despite this, Clubhouse boasts that its Android application has been downloaded 8 million times, allowing the creation of more than 500,000 rooms. The next milestone will be this summer, when the need for an invitation to join the platform will be eliminated, which will surely allow many more people to join, opening up new possibilities for conversation.
With this opening, we will see how this market segment develops, and even what measures the competition will take to avoid being threatened by it, which we could surely see movements on both sides.
