In the future, when we want to take a selfie, we will be able to launch a mini-drone from the phone, let it take the picture, and store it back inside.
This is what a new Vivo patent published at WIPO shows, a phone with a small drone with a camera inside.
The idea is as seen in the figure: a tiny and very thin drone comes out of the top of the phone, takes off with tiny rotors, flies to take the desired photo, and then docks again to load and store, without explanations of how to drive it from the mobile (it is not easy to steer a drone without experience).
Let’s be clear about one point: a patent is not an invention, but a protected idea. It may be that no one will ever manufacture that mobile with a drone inside, but if someone does, they will have to pay the patent rights to Vivo.
What is known is that the drone would be powered by the cell phone battery and that the cell phone itself would be responsible for the remote control and manual shooting of the photo, although if they ever manufacture something like this, it will surely have an intelligent system that will do much of the work autonomously.
A lot would have to change for a cell phone to have space inside to store a drone, but well, we have seen stranger things in recent years, so the hope is the last thing to lose. Surely the idea of having a drone on the wrist, as a bracelet, which is activated with the mobile, is more feasible, although the danger of taking an eye to the neighbor because of a selfie will always be there, present.
