The arrival of Windows 11 seems to be returning the interest in testing the capabilities of the new Microsoft operating system on the most unsuspected devices and if we have already seen how it works on a Lumia 950 XL now they have managed to make it work on a Xiaomi Mi 8 and a OnePlus 6T.
In this case, we are talking about two phones with less time behind them than the Lumia model, although they have been on the market since 2018. Two phones that have been able to use Windows 11 thanks to supporting for ARM processors.
The person in charge of carrying out this “daring” has been the developer Xilin Wu on Github figure behind the “Renegade” project. The goal was, among others, to prove that Windows 11 ARM64 can be installed on phones using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.
And although they have managed to start Windows 11, they do not reach the success that the Lumia 950 XL had, since in these two cases some of the capabilities of the operating system do not work and for example have not managed to make calls. In addition, there are quite a few parts of the system that can not be used.
Running Windows 11 on an Android-based phone is a bigger challenge than running it on the Lumia 950 XL, which, let’s remember, had Windows 10 Mobile as its operating system. In this case, developers have had to create their tools and have enabled a custom UEFI environment to be compatible with the Snapdragon 845, since Microsoft has no plans to bring Windows 11 to cell phones.
This is quite a challenge, a project born out of the ability to run Android apps on Windows 11 that still has a long way to go.
